Saturday 09.18.2010 — A new dawn for Power Rangers on DVD?

Thanks to BunkoBud on Rangerboard for pointing out these bits of information about Power Rangers on DVD from TVShowsOnDVD.com:

Although Disney-affiliated Jetix has caused season-set releases of various Power Rangers incarnations to happen overseas, Disney has shown little interest in doing similar packages in North America. Nor had they come to the negotiating table when “indie” studios (such as Shout! Factory) expressed an interest in licensing the DVD rights. This has been the hold-up for Power Rangers season sets thus far. A week ago, however, it was announced that Haim Saban’s newly-formed Saban Brands company had re-acquired the rights to the original 15 programs from Disney. The following day a press release announced that Saban Brands had finalized a deal with Nickelodeon to begin re-airing the existing 700 episodes on the NickToons channel, with a new 16th incarnation of the show planned to broadcast on Nickelodeon and NickToons in 2011. In the past week, we’ve received e-mails from passionate fans, who assume this means that Nickelodeon/Paramount MUST therefore have the DVD rights to these old episodes, yes? Well, hold on there… don’t go assuming that! NOTHING in any of the public announcements has mentioned home videos rights. It’s possible that Nick/Par did acquire those rights, on the other hand we know that several indie studio (including Shout!) are speaking to Saban Brands about the possibility of releasing Power Ranger DVDs through their companies. Whatever happens, it won’t be immediately (because it still takes time to produce a DVD, of course). We’ll keep an eye on it, but right now nothing is assured in the way of a DVD release just yet. However, things are looking up for the first time in a while; perhaps the long wait will soon be over!

Very interesting stuff. Sooo glad Disney has gotten their squeaky clean paws off this franchise, especially after this news that they wouldn’t let the episodes be released in the US. With Saban now back in control, the future of Power Rangers on DVD is looking a whole lot brighter. πŸ™‚ Just prefer that Nick doesn’t release it though. kthnx.

I awoke in the morning and got online to finish up the previous entry.. and I soon watched 145 Days of Power Rangers (“For Whom The Bell Trolls”.. aw, they skipped “Foul Play In The Sky”.. but it seems they’re actually streaming them in international order, which would make sense since these are the international versions of the episodes :p). I then watched the rest of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (wow, great episodes.. especially the second one.. like the whole prequel/sequel aspect πŸ™‚ ).

Eventually, I watched the final six episodes of Glee: Season 1. I had planned to only watch three today and the rest tomorrow, but I chose to just get them over with. That and the finale was awesome. That was the episode that finally confirmed my decision to buy it on disc. πŸ™‚ ..I then got onto PlayStation Home for a little but in order to race my dolphy. But I wasn’t expecting him to win a race so soon. He barely came out in front as the race ended too. Wow. I quickly placed the bronze crown atop his head (3 wins is a silver crown, 5 wins gets the gold crown) and put out the trophy for all to see. The very very few who come to my personal space, but still. πŸ™‚

I soon watched Warehouse 13 (the episode from a week or two ago, the time travel one.. and that was a very good episode). I’ll probably take up my viewing time tomorrow trying to empty out the DVR & PS3 in preparation for the new fall TV season. Then Smallville: Season 9 come Monday. πŸ™‚ ..We had some supper, then I got online for a while..

In primetime though, I headed to the bedroom DVR and watched Fred: The Movie on Nickelodeon. I hadn’t even heard of Fred until I saw the iCarly episode that he was in, and then I thought he wasn’t all that funny. But after seeing the promos for this movie and finding them entertaining, I decided to check this out. And I liked it. There was some really funny moments. πŸ™‚

And that was about it really.. See ya.
