oh look, i’m talking dvds again…

May 29, 2003

I watched the final two episodes of Dark Angel Season 1 on DVD tonight. The whole season was as great as I remembered it upon first viewing on TV. Especially the last three or so episodes that set up the very dramatic cliffhanger season finale. I can’t wait to watch Season 2 when it’s released on DVD in October.

Though Amazon.com originally said the release date for the Dark Angel Season 2 DVD was October 21st, they now say it’s not currently in production. A few other sites now have a date of Thursday, October 2nd. Odd. I’m sure this will all be straightened out eventually. I just hope it’s still coming out.

Anyway, I also watched the A Guy Thing DVD almost immediately after Dark Angel. Great movie. To me, it seemed part romantic comedy, part “American Pie”. There were a lot of romantic comedy cliches too. But, still good.

I like Conan O’Brien. I think he’s coooool. But when he tries to make fun of Christina Aguilera, it annoys me….

Video Store Magazine has just published the list of top ten DVD best sellers of all time–or at least the last six years:

1. “Spider-Man” (12.7 million sold domestically)
2. “Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (12.2 million)
3. “Monsters Inc” (12.0 million)
4. “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (10.1 million)
5. “Shrek” (9.8 million)
6. “Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones” (9.2 million)
7. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (8.6 million)
8. “Pearl Harbor” (8.4 million)
9. “The Matrix” (8.3 million)
10. “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” (7.9 million)

Spider-Man’s number one. Wow. But, if you add in the 3 million units sold of the Extended Version of Fellowship of the Ring, it easily takes the top spot. Yay.

Okay, I’m going now. See ya.

Theater Owners Balk at ‘Idol’ Flick

May 28, 2003

Here’s something I found hilarious…so I decided to share:

Theater Owners Balk at ‘Idol’ Flick
Some theater owners are balking at screening the upcoming 20th Century Fox movie From Justin to Kelly after learning that Fox plans to release it on DVD just six weeks after it runs in theaters, the Wall Street Journal reported today (Wednesday). The movie, scheduled for release on June 13, stars Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, the winner and runner-up respectively in the first season of American Idol. According to the newspaper, theater owners are concerned that studios may decide to use a similar strategy with other films in order to boost DVD sales. Noting that the average “window” from theatrical release to DVD release is about five months, the Journal indicated that theater owners are worried that if moviegoers become aware that the DVD will be released in only a short time, they will skip the in-theater experience. Fox execs, however, said that the quickly produced movie was an attempt to exploit the popularity of the series while it is still fresh in the minds of audiences — as is the quick release of the DVD.

Ha. Maybe someday all movies will go straight to DVD?

Yay. Two more Dark Angel episodes to go. See ya.

Ninja Storm cine-manga info..

May 28, 2003

Now here’s the deal on the Power Rangers Ninja Storm cine-manga. I’ve heard that they’re only screenshots of the TV series put in comic book format. I’m really hoping this isn’t true (even though I’ll probably buy them no matter what).

Volume 1, titled “Dark Sky Overhead”, sounds like it will be the “Prelude To A Storm” plot. Volume 1 has 100 pages, retails for $7.99, and is set for release on August 5th.

Volume 2, titled “Lightning Strike”, seems to be the storyline of TV episodes 3 and 4. Volume 2 has 128 pages, also ratails for $7.99, and is set for release on November 4th.

The third (and final) volume is not yet on Tokyopop’s site, but Amazon.com is reporting that it will have 192 pages and is set for release in February 2004. Wow. Can’t wait to get these.

See ya.

prns dvds / ps2 / psx

May 28, 2003

My dad actually went to work today. Let’s hope it works out.

Anyway, I e-mailed Buena Vista again concerning the new Power Rangers Ninja Storm DVDs due in September and got the same exact reply as last time. I give up with these people..for now anyway.

Also, these two September PRNS DVDs have been added to Video Universe (click here and here). Yup, the September 2nd release date continues to be confirmed (it’s also at Amazon and Barnes&Noble).

lol @ Simon from American Idol filming a cameo for Scary Movie 3….

Oh, check out this interesting bit of news concerning Ratchet & Clank from ComputerAndVideoGames.Com:
“Beyond pipeline issues, we also use the IOP chip to decompress data on the fly in order to get the most out of the RAM space. Then there is the issue of shuffling several megabytes of textures into VRAM through the DMA each frame. To put it simply, I don’t think anyone has ever overstated the complexity of programming for the PS2. But, on the other hand, the Xbox libraries won’t allow you anywhere near the actual hardware, so there is little room for optimisation. Plus, the Xbox doesn’t have the high speed vector units of the PS2, which may be why even the best Xbox games run at 30Hz.

I seriously doubt we would have been able to make Ratchet and Clank run at 60Hz on the Xbox without drastically reducing the number of moving objects. So, ultimately, I think we’ve made the best platform choice for our game.”

Ha. PS2’s so better.

Speaking of PS2, The new PSX looks coooooool. And I’m not talking the original PlayStation either. It’s the new PSX which combines a PS2, TiVo, and a DVD recorder. It even has a 120 gigabyte hard drive. Damn. I bet it will cost a pretty penny when it hits the US next year. Check it out over on IGN.

See ya.

I finally found a perfect mp3 of this song! I can’t wait for her next CD!

Goodnight.

jampack crap you’ll skip anyway

May 27, 2003

I’ve only been playing this new Jampack for a short time, but I already have a favorite demo. It’s definitely War Of The Monsters, a fighting game between B-movie monsters. I even already added the game to my wish list at IGN.

I think they made two versions of this Jampack was so the chicken shit department stores who always insist on censoring their crap and having only pan and scan DVDs (K-mart, Walmart) could order the Teen-rated version, and true stores like Best Buy could order the Mature-rated version. According to what I’ve seen online, there’s 3 M rated demos removed and a few E & T rated damos added for the T version.

I have only five DVD episodes of Dark Angel Season 1 to go. Yay.

Anyway, I’m going to quit boring you with this and end it. See ya.

media buys 5/27/03

May 27, 2003

What I had planned to buy:
* “The Mothman Prophecies (2-Disc Special Edition)” DVD
* “A Guy Thing” DVD [with free admission to Legally Blonde 2]
* “Good Burger” DVD

What I bought:
A Guy Thing DVD When Harry Met Sally DVD (Hey, it was free...) PlayStation Jampack - Summer 2003 (M Version, not the T version viewed here)

Free DVDs rule. That’s why I headed all the way to Best Buy to get A Guy Thing. I got When Harry Met Sally for free. And I also picked up the new PlayStation Jampack – Summer 2003 (the M-Rated Version, not the T-Rated version cover shown above..since I couldn’t find a good pic of the other). But not only did I get a free DVD with A Guy Thing, I also got free admission to Legally Blonde 2. Heh.

I’ll probably buy Good Burger and The Mothman Prophecies (Special Edition) later on…

I think I’ll watch my daily episodes of Dark Angel now. See ya.

Power Rangers in 2004…

May 27, 2003

I heard from a reliable source that “Power Rangers Reloaded” was actually only a tentative title for PR’s next season used on the casting scripts, nothing near a final title. I am 99.9% sure the final title is Power Rangers Dino Thunder, because it comes from Doug Sloan. All will be revealed on or around June 10th, when the licensing show is set to begin. Every year, the next year’s Power Rangers series have been first announced there. So we’re expecting the same this year…

I’m already beginning to look forward to Dino Thunder after hearing a bit about the Abaranger backstory. Abaranger is the Japanese series that Dino Thunder will be based on, for those who don’t know. Abaranger involves dinos (of course). The storyline goes that when the asteroid hit Earth, killing all the dinosaurs, it actually split Earth into two dimensions. On one, our Earth, the dinos died and humans eventually flourished. On the other, Dino Earth, the dinos still live. And a mysterious Ranger arrives from Dino Earth to our Earth, intending to stop these villains that escaped from his Earth. He chooses three humans from our Earth to help him and become Power Rangers. Of course, we have no idea yet if this story will be translated into PR. We’ll most likely find that out on June 10th as well…

See ya.

fight club / jampack

May 26, 2003

Today was Memorial day? …Isn’t that in November?

I watched my replacement DVD of Fight Club tonight. And I finally got to enjoy the movie defect-free. I must say it was a great film. I can definitely see myself viewing this again in the future. But I sort of regret not trying to buy the out-of-print 2-disc set instead..with the extras.

Damn. The new PS2 Jampack’s out this week too. I just found this out today. Maybe I’ll be able to pick it up tomorrow…

See ya.

May 26, 2003

For the last few hours, I’ve been messing with my site editor, Cool Page. It takes so long to load the airing schedule page file, edit it, then save and upload to the site. I had to keep deleting crap in order to save it this time too. The file’s like 40-50MB. Ugh. I’ll be replacing John Doe with Fearless with the next update on or around June 3rd. Oh, to view the airing schedules page, just click here.

My dad’s abandoned me for the day again. Blah. He better be here tomorrow for my media buying.

I suck. See ya.
